In view of the 5 day quarantine restrictions in Italy being lifted for UK travellers from 31st August, I thought I’d quickly mention this little town I visited today for anyone looking for an adventure under the Tuscan sun! Home to Bocaccio, buried in a small church nearby, it’s a great little place for an intellectual pilgrimage.
Set on a hilltop, about 35km south of Florence is a buzzing, yet peaceful, inviting place. Certaldo. Accessed via a funicular (small cable car) or via car with permission for overnight visitors, it’s a town full of historic buildings, palazzos, churches and castles, and stories of families, poets and authors.

Lots of photo opportunities, lots of bars and restaurants dotted around the tiny streets, it’s a great place for a day trip or an overnight retreat, away from the busy towns of Pisa and Florence, not far from San Gimignano so also a good stop on a road trip.

I didn’t stay here overnight but when I do I’ll stay at the Osteria del Vicario, where we stopped for a late afternoon spritz! Gorgeous terrace with more beautiful views. I’ll return here soon. Thanks Arianna & Friends for introducing me to this special little town.
