Part One – Tunbridge Wells
As things are slowly starting to move and we are gradually allowed to go a little further afield, I couldn’t wait to take any opportunity for a mini break and stay away, anywhere that wasn’t home.
The first option I got was an overnighter near Hastings. The other half had a little bit of work to do and asked me along for the ride. Not needing to be asked more than once, and quickly making a space in my working from home diary, I went on line to search any availability at an Airbnb. At this stage in the roadmap to freedom, the only options to stay away from home are in a cottage or holiday let.

For those who haven’t booked and stayed in a property on Airbnb it’s a very straightforward process and for us, we have been very lucky and haven’t stayed in a bad one yet.
We decided not to stay in Hastings itself, as the only availability was a Yurt, or a converted container. It was a little too cold for that, and we fancied something a little bit more cosy and romantic. We then came across a beautiful property in Langton Green near Tunbridge in Kent. The benefit of booking just as things are reopening was that the places that are usually fully booked throughout the year were readily available for last minute bookings.

This was a small annex to a main house, but secluded enough for privacy. It had a tiny kitchen, but with everything we needed for a 24 hours stay, a beautiful bathroom with a huge shower, a walk in wardrobe, and a bed that was so comfortable we didn’t want to get out of it. It was exceptionally clean, and we were left a small hamper with bread, milk, eggs, tea and coffee. A lovely touch.
It was a contactless check in, and didn’t come into contact with the owners, except a wave and brief chat on arrival.
The position was great, with a great little pub at the bottom of the road, where we stopped for dinner before settling down to watch Chelsea on the telly!
We had our two small dogs with us and access to the most beautiful secret garden at the side and back of the property, and it was amazing for them to have a little walk and explore before we started the journey home.
A property we’d definitely stay at again should we find ourselves needing to stay in Tunbridge Wells.
